April 12, 2026

5th April, 2026 Hi Folks, hope You are having a wonderful Easter and are staying safe. Finally finished the upgrade to my Veggie Garden. Hope You like it. The Chaff Cutter certainly brings back memories to me. The Old locals at Normanville said…”You cannot grow Oats along side the Sea!”, so we did and had a record crop. It sure must have given them the irrates every time they drove past for they hated ‘Out of Towners’ back then You had to live there 20 years before you were accepted šŸ™‚ So now what? Someone came up with the ridiculous […]

Over the back of the Dressage Horse

December 6, 2025 Dressage Horse Rehab
When a horse is "over the back" it is stretching its top line from poll to dock with its back being the highest point. This gives the rider the feeling that the horse raises it's back up to meet your seat. You can literally feel the horse growing underneath you. So why ask the horse to be over the back? When over the back, the horse uses it's top line (coming). Working a horse, over the back, creates a strong and well developed top line. This enables it to carry the rider more effectively without risking injury to itself. So [...]

THE POWER OF THE ONE REIN STOP

May 21, 2024
The Power of the One Rein Stop is awesome and yet little known or used around the World. Do you like broken Bones? I don’t, which is why I am hot on this subject!! Ā Horses can only fall over if they don’t have a ā€˜Lateral Mouth’   https://horseproblems.com.au/product-category/saddlery-shop-by-horseproblems/re-mouthing-the-horse/ Are You one of the Millions who get on suspect Horses WITHOUTĀ MOUTHSĀ and without Rein Control Australian Horsemanship style???? Are You going to be one of these statistics????? readĀ ā€˜Bolting Horse’ The Power of the ā€œOne Rein Stopā€ is rarely taught and therefore rarely understood. I cannot recommend your understanding of this subject highly [...]

REIN CONTACT. SOFT HANDS OR NOT?

May 21, 2024
I often get asked about light hands when referring to the rein control of horses.Ā  This has to the most confused subject in the Horse Industry, the one subject that is largely kept back from pupils imho and the one that causes the most failed training scenarios of all. Video, Trainers, Coaches and experts everywhere, are most often very politically correct these days and will rarely let the plebs’ see what happens in the ā€˜real world’, how they themselves ride (behind closed doors) and why those at the top have so much success.   Mouths range from an ounce to [...]

TESTING THE LATERAL MOUTH OF YOUR HORSE

May 20, 2024
Testing the Lateral Mouth of all Horses that I work on, is the reason I am still able to ride rough Horses at my age, is because of this Mouthing system and theĀ One Rein Stop. Trust me Folks, don’t listen to anyone who says ā€œRide Him through it!ā€ā€¦ā€¦We had one Bucked off this Week! Go to the Round Pen. Install a good quality Roller and have a bridle with anĀ FM Bit fitted. Clip your lunge rein through the side D-Ring of theĀ RollerĀ and onto the bit. Without warning, haul the horse to a ā€˜One Rein Stop’ Use at least 20 kilo [...]

HELP….I CAN’T LET THE REINS GO!!

May 20, 2024
At a recent Equine Science Symposium, mention was made of the affects of incorrect riding, training or teaching upon the ultimate deaths in horses. I can attest that this is in fact true and prevalent. It is a constant mystery to me why virtually no horse rider of the ā€˜English’ persuasion or learning canĀ ā€˜let the reins go’ If only these riders’ knew the great benefits that they could inherit, if only they could. I have to admit that this subject is the cause of me grimacing daily and thinking thoughts of what might have been. If only. So where does it [...]

WHY MOUTHS DETERIORATE

May 20, 2024
Why Mouths deteriorate on Horses. What are the reasons for the mouths of horses to progressively deteriorate after being handed over to the owner by the ā€˜Breaker’? They almost always do, some more than others and some, totally. Lets say theĀ mouthĀ of the horse is finished at a 9-10 when it is handed back to the owner. From that day forward, unless the owner is a professional rider, the mouth of that horse will diminish for various reasons and end anywhere between zero and about 6.5. I rarely meet one over that mark. So what are the causes of this? Having [...]

LONG REINING AND MOUTH DAMAGE

May 20, 2024
Long reining and mouth damage, means outside the Round Pen, wandering around the Property. A process that I describe as a Trainer getting a ā€˜warm inner glow’ that the Horse can be stopped, before mount up šŸ™‚ There are many accidents with this system and once a Horse gallops off with the Reins flapping behind the Legs, few can fix them. I have had many through here! I have two points that I would like to make about the use of ā€˜Long Reinsā€ in the breaking in (Ā starting) process of the young horse. That of the hundreds of previously long [...]
