Lameness in the Performance Horse

January 11, 2018

The Vast majority of Unsound Horses DO NOT SHOW LAMENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!…….contrary to what most Vets’ are taught. I have met hundreds of them in my Life time and could walk You out the door here this instant and show You one. I could sell that Horse Today, obtain a ‘Pre-Purchase Vet Check’ and the Horse will pass! This article is written on behalf of all Horses that cry out for help but are often not heard. One must of course realize that such horses have got unsoundness problems. Despite their physical discomforts or mental fragility, these horses can often be rehabilitated […]

The Crooked Horse

October 11, 2017

There are two basic reasons for the ‘Crooked Horse’ Veterinary issues Ridden Issues For the latter, go here and read about ‘Rider induced Veterinary Problems. VETERINARY ISSUES These come with any twinge that provides discomfort to the Horse, such that it will evade ‘straightness‘ and go ‘crooked’. This compounds matters however, for over time, the Horse builds uneven Muscles and support systems. These normally include: Sacroiliac issues Stifle Issues Pelvis Uneven Hips caused at Birth Bone Chips They DON’T normally include Chiropractic issues and whilst I am on that subject, Horses cannot put shoulders, Hips and the like, OUT! ** […]

THE WIND SUCKING HORSE

January 23, 2017

Wind Sucking is a vice and it is also a legal trigger for a Veterinary Surgeon to reject a horse during an inspection for sale. The wind sucker is often under weight and I have even seen them so bad that they have died of mal nutrition because of their incessant desire to be carrying on their habit. Wind Sucking becomes a drug addiction with horses. They are addicts. Each time they suck and gulp air they receive a hit of endorphins which is similar to a drug, hence it’s addiction. The habit is generally caused by boredom in the […]

January 23, 2017

Club Hooves on Performance Horses is a serious concern! Something that experience has shown us, comes with many downsides and we highly recommend you don’t flirt with them. Particularly in the ‘Performance Horse’. They detrimentally affect many aspects of Horse Ownership: CAUSES They are normally Born with the condition, which can be brought on by all manner of things, from Feeding of Mares to hireditary. This article is only a general warning to you so we won’t get into the technical issues of this. FLYING CHANGES We all know it takes a lot of work and a long time […]

CONFORMATION VERSUS SOUNDNESS

January 23, 2017

In the Performance Horse World, ‘Conformation’ is everything and yet largely ignored by those buying for their chosen Sport. Let’s talk about Dressage……. If a Horse is not ‘Built for Purpose’, it cannot adequately complete the task. Behavior will then be affected, as the Horse struggles to do what it wasn’t built for. This removes ‘relaxation’, the first level of the ‘German Training Scale’ and without it, forget Dressage. and yet, at every Comp I attend, I see OVER 50% of all Horses, being not ‘built to cope’ CONFORMATION INDUCED MISBEHAVIOR So here is a range of Photos, of Horses […]

WORMING YOUR HORSE WITH CONTROL & SUCCESS

November 6, 2013

The absolute Fool Proof way to ensure success, is to ‘Leg Restraints Train’ Your Horses. End of problem! Stock Whip training the unbroken Horse with Knee Hobbles How important is it to worm your horse. Very!! Here are some reasons:  Worms can kill a horse by perforating the stomach lining. Worms can cause death by causing Colic, which can lead to death. A wormy horse never has a nice coat. Worms affect the color of your horse. A wormy steel grey horse will turn lighter grey as do the Australian Blue Heeler Dogs when they need worming. In fact, I […]

Sunday 25th March, 2018 Hi Folks. Hope You all had a good Week. Mrs. HP has had the whip out this Week and I have been riding a Bobcat that we hired, to trick up her Horse Yards before the wet, put new base in them, spread the composted manure and seed, remove all the Tree stumps out of the Foals Paddock and re-sand Her arena, amongst other things. She's a Happy Girl! 🙂
