The Australian Horse Float Design Evolution

January 24, 2017
THE HISTORY OF BADLY DESIGNED HORSE FLOATS IN AUSTRALIA    2002 - 2018  I am proud that the Horsemen' of Australia, were completely responsible in driving all design improvements of Horse Floats/Trailers, in this Country, starting in 1999. Congrats to John Chatteton for his work on the sloped walls.   from this  to this   THE TRIGGER It all started this Day Due to our prize 2 Year Old Warmblood, hitting Her Head on the first every trip in her Coachman here, to Her first ever Show, I grabbed a Cut Off Saw and the Roof was completely cut off within 30 [...]

THE AFFECT OF HORSE FLOAT DESIGN ON LOADING

November 6, 2013

Have you ever wondered why your Horse won’t go on your Float or other Floats? Do you think it’s all Training?…….well it isn’t. Horses often refuse to enter Horse Floats because of design or maintenance deficiencies.   Inadequate Horse Float Design directly makes it more difficult for an Owner to load their Horse!!!! I’ll deal with a number of these one by one and give you the reasons behind the thinking of Horses “Listen to Your Horse” for they are very good Judges and are rarely wrong. Horses are “Panicaholics and Claustrophobics” …….so why should they enter a “Tin […]

SAFE TOWING OF HORSE FLOATS

November 6, 2013

put video portal vid   This is the forgotten subject of Equestrian Industry teaching. It is one of the most important and your horse relies upon you knowing it off by heart. How people can be allowed to tow horses around without a Towing License is beyond me.   Rather than advise how you should tow a horse float, I will tell you how I do it as I break every rule in the book to give my horses a safe and comfortable ride. I am not advising you to break the road rules. Perish the thought. KNOW […]

HORSE FLOAT WALL CLIMBERS

November 6, 2013

There is nothing more frustrating than to experience and witness, the frantic actions of the horse that climbs the walls of a horse float. Over the years, I have floated many unbroken horses and have always noticed that they are ‘rock solid’ inside the float and are not easily upset. The same with foals, weanling and yearlings. Having a horse climb the wall is the least of my worries with these horses. In fact, I have deliberately tested a few of them, just to see how easily they can be upset or even worse, turned into ‘wall climbers’ […]

LOADING AND FLOATING OF THE HORSE (Thousands of words)

November 6, 2013

The loading and floating of horses is the stuff that divorces are made of. If you are a horse husband and the wife’s horse isn’t wanting to go in the float, get out of there fast!! Kids and dogs have been known to get into major drama if within range when things go wrong. Horse Floats are called Horse Trailers in the US.   If this happens whilst you are at a Show, you will quickly inherit a dozen other experts as well as onlookers. The experts will be all trying their pet system out on your […]

HP’s Blog for Sunday 25th March, 2018

Sunday 25th March, 2018 Hi Folks. Hope You all had a good Week. Mrs. HP has had the whip out this Week and I have been riding a Bobcat that we hired, to trick up her Horse Yards before the wet, put new base in them, spread the composted manure and seed, remove all the Tree stumps out of the Foals Paddock and re-sand Her arena, amongst other things. She's a Happy Girl! 🙂
