THE CLUB HOOF AND IT’S DOWNSIDE

Club Hooves on Performance Horses is a serious concern! Something that experience has shown us, comes with many downsides and we highly recommend you don’t flirt with them. Particularly in the ‘Performance Horse’. They detrimentally affect many aspects of Horse Ownership: CAUSES They are normally Born with the condition, which can be brought on by all manner of things, from Feeding of Mares to hireditary. CONFORMATION VERSUS SOUNDNESS

In the Performance Horse World, ‘Conformation’ is everything and yet largely ignored by those buying for their chosen Sport. Let’s talk about Dressage……. If a Horse is not ‘Built for Purpose’, it cannot adequately complete the task. Behavior will then be affected, as the Horse struggles to do what it wasn’t built for. This removes ‘relaxation’, the first level of the ‘German Training Scale’ and without it, forget Dressage. and yet, at every Comp I attend, I see OVER 50% of all Horses, being not ‘built to cope’ CONFORMATION INDUCED MISBEHAVIOR So here is a range of Photos, of Horses […]

WORMING YOUR HORSE WITH CONTROL & SUCCESS

The absolute Fool Proof way to ensure success, is to ‘Leg Restraints Train‘ Your Horses. End of problem!   How important is it to worm your horse. Very!! Here are some reasons:    Worms can kill a horse by perforating the stomach lining. Worms can cause death by causing Colic, which can lead to death. A wormy horse never has a nice coat. Worms affect the color of your horse. A wormy steel grey horse will turn lighter grey as do the Australian Blue Heeler Dogs when they need worming. In fact, I can tell if the brand of […]

STIFLE PROBLEMS, THEIR RESULTS & TREATMENT

I would dearly love a $ for every horse that I have to assess due to stifle problems. The simple Veterinary description for this is something like the momentary locking of the patella or knee bone as it crosses back and forth over the joint. This gives horses some discomfort although Veterinary opinion says that there is little or no pain associated with it. I find that a little hard to accept. This problem can come in varying severity and this can dictate what actions a horse will take in an attempt to rectify the problem. Some just try […]

CLIPPING THE PROBLEM HORSE

Clipping horses is a dangerous job at the best of times. The prices these people charge is way too cheap. They deserve a medal.   Most of those that end up doing this valuable job, do so with very little or no knowledge of ‘Horsemanship’ and the use of ‘Restraints’ and it is a wonder more people aren’t severely hurt.     DRUGS These days, I note that some are resorting to drugs. This is a highly questionable practice as their possession of such jobs without Veterinary prescription is illegal, they are administering those drugs without Veterinary […]

THE CAUSES, CONSEQUENCES & FIXES FOR THE UPSIDE DOWN NECK

An upside down neck pretty well explains itself. It is the over development of the under muscle of the neck and the degeneration of the top line muscle. Thus causing the look that the neck of the horse is put on its body, upside down. Generally, horses are not born that way, although some are. During my entire career, I have not heard it explained in a way that kids could understand, why such a high percentage of their horses have “Upside-down Necks”. You know, the funny little horses that go around looking like Lamas. BORN WITH THE INCORRECT NECK […]
