LETTER

Hey Mr O…..I have a curly one for you. You know how everyone usually only talked about problem horses? ? ? Well what about horses that are too compliant? What I mean is – this new T/B mare is sooooo bloody quiet, she just does everything. It is really hard to increase any kind of pressure with her because she just doesn’t react. Have I made any sense at ?

Hi There.

I have read the occasional article on this and one Today, written by a Vet, advising the ‘Tom Dorrence’ teachings of ‘moving the feet’ All well and good.

However, the Vet forgot the Veterinary.

    • As You know, I always teach “Listen to the Horses” and unless this is done as a first step, all the Worldly training advice won’t work…..for instance……

    • What if the Horse has Ulcers?….would You want to move????? I see it is a T/B Mare, well You know what percentage of those have Ulcers, almost all.
What if it has a Bone Spur on a Hock?…..I could go on and on and on.

    • So my advise, is always, “Eliminate the Veterinary’ before every going to ‘training fixes’ and even then, to always have the Veterinary firmly in the back of the Mind, in case of.

    • Let me give You an example.

    • A quite Horse that shies. She has always done it. I rode Her around a familiar area, on NO REIN, time and time again, but regardless of being familiar with the area and repetitive trips, with no Wind, the Horse will startle,

    • The next observation ( Listen) is that it didn’t startle at the same spots, they were varied, with each lap.

    • So Training fixes????……get after it, put the spurs on, fix the Leg Yielding, put it’s Head down…bla bla?????

    • No, get the Vet to check the Eye Sight!

Regards

Why is it that you always have the right bloody advice. I thought I was switched on but then I hear what you have to say and I feel like a fool. I’m onto it. Thanks again

cause I am bloody Old

I am listening….are You??

Sunday 25th March, 2018 Hi Folks. Hope You all had a good Week. Mrs. HP has had the whip out this Week and I have been riding a Bobcat that we hired, to trick up her Horse Yards before the wet, put new base in them, spread the composted manure and seed, remove all the Tree stumps out of the Foals Paddock and re-sand Her arena, amongst other things. She's a Happy Girl! 🙂
