THE CROOKED HORSE

There are two basic reasons for the 'Crooked Horse'

  • Veterinary issues
  • Ridden Issues

For the latter, go here and read about 'Rider induced Veterinary Problems.

VETERINARY ISSUES

These come with any twinge that provides discomfort to the Horse, such that it will evade 'straightness' and go 'crooked'. This compounds matters however, for over time, the Horse builds uneven Muscles and support systems.

These normally include:

  • Sacroiliac issues
  • Stifle Issues
  • Pelvis
  • Uneven Hips caused at Birth
  • Bone Chips

They DON'T normally include Chiropractic issues and whilst I am on that subject, Horses cannot put shoulders, Hips and the like, OUT!

** Crookedness normally comes from REAR END issues, NOT Front end issues.

CROOKEDNESS OF THE RIDER

Crookednes, can be caused by CROOKEDNESS in the Rider or SADDLE FIT as well. Such Crookedness compounds as I said and causes uneven Muscle Tone, which makes the Horse stay Crooked in the way of going and over time, develope other issues of discomfort.

CORRECT DRESSAGE

If ridden in the 'English Disipline way' and not being ridden correct Dressage or 'Inside Leg to Outside Rein', Crookedness will grow. The longer the Horse goes around incorrectly, the more crooked it becomes. This is because the Horse needs to go around 'straight' to maintain Body well being. It is uncumbant upon all of us therefore, to get up to the mark and ride properly, if we are to insist upon the Horse supposedly looking Good.

COMPENSATION

Most 'Crooked Horses' have uneven Muscle Tone and the Tell Tail signs of a problem, as they compensate in their way of going or movement. They generally have uneven Rumps and/or down the rear of the Rump adjacent to the Tail.

WEAR AND TEAR & CALCIFICATION

As time wears on and Riders' fail to 'listen' the signs become more obvious of course but can you imagine the Hell on Earth that such Horses endure Daily, across the entire Plantey????

SIGNS

Look for the Signs.

  • Swishing Tails
  • Excessive Sweating too early on a Ride, taking into acount the Temperature
  • Crabbing.
  • Quarters in or Out.
  • Preferred Leads
  • and much more

So please Folks, keep Your Mind Open, for the Horses everywhere, depend upon you!!

He went Home but endured many more Months to prove us wrong, finally meeting his fate and released from his Hell.
