As I write, hundreds of Thousands of People are riding their Horses around, 'on a contact' for reasons only detrimental to the Horse, the one they think they love.

THE POINT

The point of this article is simply this......if You want to take up a contact on the mouth of Your Horse, for reasons of looking pretty.....'in a frame', then You had better be doing it right or You are simply terrorizing it.

If You don't know how to properly do it, stop it and go and learn on a School Horse!...and...

If You dare take hold of the Mouth of Your Horse, there is no excuse for inflicting discomfort.

SOFTNESS

The only acceptable way to hold a 'Contact' on the Mouth of a Horse, is when it is truly 'round', not 'above the Bit' and that it is soft, supple and correct. All other ways inflict negative Veterinary outcomes upon the Horse......and therefore discomfort. You should now read this

So why is this practice 'Par for the Course'? Why is that the VAST MAJORITY of Horse Riders from the 'English Disciplines' insist upon riding 'above the Bit'? Think about the Horse Industry systems when MOST PEOPLE cannot ride a Horse soft and in a place where Horses can cope?

YOUR DECISION

Think about it, do You do it? Are You one of the majority? Are You contributing to the hidden sadness of Your Horse?

If in doubt, stop it and get help or RIDE ON A PLEASURE REIN!!!!

READ MY LIPS

After many Thousands of Horses across my 50 Year Career, most being so called 'Problem Horses', I know this for a fact......

If You are going to participate in 'English Training' of a Horse on an Arena or Competition, it HAS TO BE CORRECT. For if it is not:

  • Round

  • Supple

  • Flexed correctly

  • Holding the weight on the inside HInd, and........

  • Ridden "Inside Leg to Outside Rein"

forget it, for You are not keeping Your Horse happy and You are riding it to the detriment of it's Body and Mind.

THE GERMAN TRAINING SCALE

You may wonder why a 'Horseman' would talk about this. Well trust me, I know and have proven countless times, that this system of training, IN ANY DISCIPLINE, is the 'Holy Grail' of Horse Training!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards to Your Horses
